This strategic marketing partnership aims to return Spring Break to Acapulco, one of Mexico’s most popular beach destinations and host destination of MTV’s Ultimate Spring Break in 2010.

“While Acapulco has faced several challenges over the past two years, we believe that the new tourism initiatives put into action by the State of Guerrero, coupled with our partnership with StudentCity, will help us to this market segment in 2013,” said Pedro Haces Sordo, President of the Acapulco Destination Marketing Office. “Our commitment is and always has been to the traveler. The implementation of numerous safety programs throughout the city, as well as an over $1 billion investment to restore the ‘traditional zone’ of Acapulco are just a few examples of how the destination is attempting to rebuild our image.”

Discovery of 6,000 Sea Turtle Eggs

WHO:
The Acapulco Destination Marketing Office and the State of Guerrero are proud to announce both Icacos and El Palmar beaches have officially received the “Clean Beach” certification by the National Certification Institute of Mexico.

WHAT:
After four months of testing, including the submission of over 75 water samples, and passing more than 54 different tests, 800 meters of Icacos Beach have been officially certified as clean by the National Certification Institute of Mexico.

El Palmar Beach in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, considered the longest beach in Latin America with more than 2,630 meters – approximately 1.6 miles – also passed the re-certification process, which is done every two years. The inspectors took into account a number of factors, including the quality of the water, biodiversity, presence of lifeguards, sand, beach signals and handicap access, among others.

Furthermore, the re-certification process led to the discovery of more than 50 sea turtle nests housing approximately 6,000 eggs along El Palmar Beach. The eggs were sent to turtle conversation camps for monitoring and safekeeping. Some of Acapulco’s most popular beaches – Pie de la Cuesta and Barra Vieja – also offer sea turtle release programs where visitors can participate in the once-in-a-lifetime experience to observe the turtles in their natural habitat and help release the baby turtles back into the wild.

The State of Guerrero received the official certification this month for both Icacos Beach in Acapulco and El Palmar Beach in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo.

State of Guerrero Launches Campaign to Promote Its Top Tourism Destinations to the International Market

Acapulco, Mexico (October 1, 2012) – The Acapulco Destination Marketing Office is pleased to announce its involvement in the “Sun Triangle,” a tourism initiative launched by the State of Guerrero to position and promote its top tourist destinations – Acapulco, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Taxco – on an international level.

One of the major efforts put forth by the State of Guerrero as part of the “Sun Triangle” campaign is the sponsorship of Mexican NASCAR driver, Daniel Suarez, who debuted his car and uniform with the official Acapulco and “Sun Triangle” logos at the New Hampshire NASCAR Pro Series race on September 22 and in Monterrey, Mexico on September 30. He will be sporting the logo for his next three races in the United States, taking place on October 13, November 3 & 10 as well as in Chihuahua on October 28 and in Mexico City on November 11.

The Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guerrero, Mr. Javier Aluni Montes, announced the promotional campaign with NASCAR is one of the many projects that Governor of Guerrero, Angel Aguirre Rivero, is pursuing to introduce the “Sun Triangle” destinations to a high-income market in the United States and abroad.

“By sponsoring Daniel Suarez, the “Sun Triangle” campaign has the opportunity to reach the over 75 million NASCAR fans in the United States, which is one of our most important international markets,” said Mr. Aluni. “The races will be broadcast in 150 countries, further extending the potential reach of the campaign, and each race expects to have an average of 200,000 people in attendance.”
