Activities

Stay active by land or by sea.

For close to a century, Acapulco has been a magnet for fun-loving vacationers. They come for the sunny climate and seaside setting, the great cuisine and friendly people, the world class resorts and hotels. But that’s not all. They also flock to Acapulco because they know they’ll be able to indulge in their favorite active pastimes, whether on land or on sea.

If you’re looking for water-based activities, you’ll find the largest selection along the Golden Zone beaches lining Acapulco Bay, where equipment rental can easily be arranged. Some of these activities will catch your eye as soon as you step on the beach, such as banana boat rides, parasailing, boogie boarding, paddle boats and the newest craze, SUP – Stand Up Paddle Surfing.

Swashbuckling actor Errol Flynn regularly sailed his yacht down from California to the waters of Acapulco Bay.

Various operators on the beach provide the option for sailboat rentals, snorkeling, scuba diving and day cruises. One of the most popular cruises is the ten-minute boat ride from the Traditional Zone’s Caleta Beach to Roqueta Island, a popular picnic spot. Snorkelers and divers make a point of observing the underwater statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe, which was sunk underwater in 1958 as a memorial to a group of divers that perished at the spot. Other prime dive sites in Acapulco include Puerto Marqués, Caletilla and Icacos Beach.

John Wayne was a regular visitor to Acapulco in the 40s and 50s, attracted to the destination for its prime sportfishing and easygoing atmosphere.

Sportfishing is one of the activities that put Acapulco on the tourism map back in the 30s. Anglers regularly haul sailfish, Dorado and marlin from the waters off Acapulco Bay. There are a variety of sportfishing operators offering charters for a range of budgets. Many offer hotel pickup and fishing equipment in the charter price.

On land, activities include horseback riding, tennis, bowling, golf and more. One of the destinations signature thrills is the 165-feet high bungee jump on Costera Beach, called Paradise Bungy. Bullfight aficionados can follow the sport at the Plaza de Toros, near Caletilla Beach.

Additionally, Acapulco is preparing to welcome a brand new, state-of-the-art soccer stadium in the Diamond Zone, which will hold over 27,000 people and will include a shopping mall, aquarium and gym upon completion.
